Self-Care

Self-care to me is constantly changing. Sometimes I want to paint, draw, or create something new and other times I want to be out strolling through nature. I have (some say too many) plants all over my home that make me happy. Before COVID I couldn’t keep a cactus alive (although turns out that’s hard because I live in Chicago) but quarantine brought out my green thumb. My self-care also includes spending time with my friends and family - ideally eating together.

Sandy Su Maw, MA (she/her)

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Qualifications

မင်္ဂလာပါ! My name is Sandy and I am Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) providing counseling to teenagers (12+) and adults in Illinois. My past clinical experience includes working with adolescents and adults, and veterans, especially those with past trauma and/or those who struggle with anxiety and depression. I also am passionate about working with immigrants, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ community members and multicultural populations. I especially believe in providing support for these populations as they are often systematically underserved and overlooked in behavioral health and healthcare. My therapeutic approach is informed by social justice, empathy, cultural humility, and respect for diversity. I believe in creating a safe and inclusive space where clients can explore their experiences, process their trauma, and reclaim their sense of agency and resilience. Being an immigrant myself, I understand firsthand the challenges and difficulties of immigrating and navigating life in a new country while preserving one's cultural identity. Drawing from evidence-based modalities such as trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), humanistic therapy and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), I work collaboratively with clients to address the unique challenges they face, including acculturative stress, discrimination, and intergenerational trauma. My goal is to empower clients to heal from their past experiences, help end cycles of trauma and cultivate a sense of resilience in their lives. As a therapist, I enjoy creating a safe space for individuals to share their experiences, thoughts, and emotions without judgment or biases. I hope empower clients to heal from their past experiences and help them move closer towards their goals. If you're ready, feel free to reach out for a free 15-minute free consultation call.

Self-Care

In my free time, you’ll find me going on long walks with my dog, trying new restaurants, doing yoga, thrifting, and watching films.

Andrea Clark, JD, MDiv (she/her)

Pre-licensed clinician

PhD Candidate

Qualifications

Hi, I am Andrea. I am a pre-licensed clinical professional counselor providing counseling services to young/emerging adults (17-25) and adults in Illinois. I completed my clinical internship at Illinois Masonic Medical Center’s Behavioral Health Services, where I provided individual and group therapy to clients from diverse racial, cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds who struggled with past or ongoing trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss. I believe that culture, race, ethnicity and nationality all contribute to our view of ourselves and how we interact with the world and people around us. My therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that healthy human relationships are essential to our well-being. I ground my clinical work in evidenced-based, psychodynamic theories such as Relationally Focused Psychodynamic Therapy (RFPT), Self-Psychology and other psychodynamic approaches, along with shorter term evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Prior to entering the field of mental health counseling, I served as Staff Chaplain for Women’s Health at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where I cared for the spiritual and emotional needs of birthing people and families experiencing pregnancy loss and illness, fertility issues and pregnancy and birthing complications. That work introduced me to a passion for caring for the mental health and well-being of birthing people and families of color during pregnancy and the year following birth or loss, or the perinatal period, especially for communities of color and other marginalized communities. I am the Director for the Perinatal Mental Health Alliance for People of Color with Postpartum Support International, where she works to advance equity in maternal mental healthcare and bring awareness to the needs of communities of color in this area.

I am also a PhD student in Psychology and Religion at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary at Northwestern University, where my research will focus on African American women’s perception of support from their faith communities and clergy during early pregnancy loss. I hold a Bachelor of Arts from Oberlin College, a Master of Divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and a Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago.

Accepted Insurances: Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, Aetna PPO, Cigna PPO, self-pay/sliding scale

Self-pay: $175 intakes, $150 for follow-ups

Self-Care:

Laughing and talking with friends over a good meal is such an important part of taking care of myself.

Tasha Mitchell, M.Ed., M.Div. (she/her)

Pre-licensed clinician

PhD Candidate

Qualifications

Hi! My name is Tasha (she/her), and I provide individual, couples, and family psychotherapeutic counseling to adults and adolescents. I earned a B.S. in Psychology from Howard University in 2008, an M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology from Howard University in 2012, and an M.Div. from Vanderbilt University in 2021. I am also currently working toward my Ph.D. in Pastoral Theology, Personality and Culture at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. Much of my career has encompassed advocacy roles in the nonprofit and state/federal government sectors, and I have been practicing as a pre-licensed clinician since 2022.

My approach to therapy is client-centered, collaborative, and integrative, and I tailor strategies and techniques based on the needs of each individual client. I primarily utilize Psychoanalysis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Family Systems Theory, and Attachment Theory to help address concerns ranging from depression and anxiety to life transitions and relationships. Additionally, I can incorporate nontraditional systems into therapy, such as the Enneagram and Astrology. My unique background has positioned me well to support individuals who are grappling with life’s big questions, addressing fear, navigating loss, and feeling conflicted or hopeless. I am also adept at working with clients from historically marginalized backgrounds (e.g., LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC persons), as well as those seeking to heal from cultural and religious traumas.

As a Womanist clinician, I pay particularly close attention to issues of intersectionality and systemic oppression, I acknowledge the dynamic relationship between nature and nurture, and I am a tenacious advocate for exploring the impacts of the external world on the individual. Whether you're feeling stuck, confused, or misunderstood when wrestling with tensions both intrapersonal and interpersonal, I will support you in cultivating new ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving to achieve a more holistic sense of mental, emotional, physical, relational, and spiritual well-being. My desire for therapy is to create a healing space that is relaxed, beneficial, and personal. The more you feel seen and enjoy this process, the more positive outcomes we will yield together. I believe each person is an expert of their own self and needs, and my goal is to help you tap into this expertise to become the absolute best version of yourself.

Self-Care:

When taking a break from my caregiving roles, I enjoy cooking, traveling, being outdoors, playing my guitar, attending concerts, and watching or playing sports. I also love spending quality time with my fiancée, who shares many of my passions in life. Eating a nice meal on our patio under the stars is one my absolute favorite nightly routines.
